Rain

Western Nebraska has been in a drought for 8 or 9 years. It's been going on so long that it is hard to remember when it started. But I think that it is finally over. We have had 7.35 inches of rain in the last week. That is half of our yearly rainfall in a week. The pastures and hills are so green. It is such a pretty sight. We don't have much of a problem where I live with flooding because I live in the Sandhills and most of the water just soaks into the ground. There are some fields with low spots that have standing water, but not too bad. I think the county roads suffered the most with many spots washed out from so much water. I am very thankful for all the rain. The wheat looks good and we should have a good crop, plus I haven't had to water the lawn or garden in forever. And with the sun finally out my garden should just grow and grow and grow!

Paintings of home

I am back from my week long Christmas vacation. Had a great time with the family. Always so much fun with the three little kids. It was a white Christmas, and cold for a while. But turned really nice and was 57 for the drive home.

I have been working on landscapes of home. Bright colored abstract oil paintings of the Sandhills, and some of the plant life. Makes me wish for spring. At least the days are officially getting longer, if only by a few minutes.

Sandhills of Nebraska - Home

I have traveled all over the world and still the most beautiful place is the Sandhills of Nebraska. Yesterday we had all this snow and I woke up to a winter wonderland. There was no wind so everything was just perfect and still. Of course once I let the dogs out it was a little chaotic. The sandhills is the largest sand dune in North America and covers almost 20,000 square miles. It sits on top of the Ogallala aquaifer. It might sound kinda boring but it has the largest and most intricate wetland ecosystem in the United States. Rolling hills with grass, yuccas, and all sorts of beautiful wildflowers. The sunsets are mindblowing. It's the greatest place in the world!! :)
